What's this study about?
The aim of the SENACT study is to test strategies for senior citizens to become more physically active in everyday life.
What does participation involve?
The study is conducted mainly in everyday life. The participants wear an electronic motion sensor on the hip that records physical activity for one month (28 days). During these 28 days, the senior citizens also complete short interviews in the evening on the smartphone (about 5 minutes).
On the first and last days of the study, a researcher visits the participants at home to complete a questionnaire with one participant at a time (approx. 45–60 minutes each).
Who can participate?
Anyone who is 65 years or older, who wants to move more, and who has a smartphone with Internet access. Further requirements are being able to move, not suffering from dementia, and consenting to participate in the study.
Why should anyone participate?
By participating in the study, you gain the opportunity to learn more about your own physical activity. For this purpose, all participants receive an overview of their personal activity data after completing the study.
During the study, strategies are also tested for becoming more physically active. Because an increase in physical activity can contribute to better health.
In addition, participation in the study makes an important contribution to research in health psychology.
